Use headers, footers, page numbers, & footnotes

Y'all can use footnotes to add together references in your Google Doc. In documents that are in pages format, you can add page numbers, and y'all can also include headers and footers to add content to every page in the document.

Add headers & footers

  1. On your computer, open up a document in Google Docs.
  2. In the top left, click Insert and thenHeader & page number.
  3. Cull Header or Footer.
  4. Enter text for the header or footer.

Important: This feature isn't bachelor in documents that are in pageless format. If your document already includes headers or footers and you lot switch it to pageless format, you lot won't see the headers and footers in your document anymore. To use and see headers and footers, make sure your document is in pages format.


Use different headers or footers per page or section

  1. Click a header or footer.
  2. To choose your header and footer layout, check the box:
    • Different get-go folio: Use different headers and footers on the first page of the document or section. Acquire how to add a section break.
    • Link to previous: Uncheck if y'all want to utilize a different header or footer for that section. If you lot don't observe this option, add a department break. Learn how to add a section break.

Utilise different headers or footers on odd or fifty-fifty pages

  1. Click a header or footer.
  2. At the right, click Options.
  3. Under "Employ to," click Whole document.
  4. Click Different odd and even and thenApply.

Remove a header or footer

  1. On your computer, open up a document in Google Docs.
  2. Double-click the header or footer you desire to remove.
  3. On the right, click Optionsand thenRemove header or Remove footer.

Modify or remove header & footer margins

You lot can fix different header or footer margins for each section of your document or the unabridged certificate.

Tip: To remove header or footer space, modify your margin size to 0.

Add page numbers & total folio count

Yous can add page numbers to the whole document, to specific sections of your document, or starting from a specific page.

Important: This feature isn't bachelor in documents that are in pageless format. To use this feature, make sure your document is in pages format.

  1. Open a Google Doctor.
  2. In the top left, click Insert and thenPage number.
  3. And so, click either:
    • Page number: Choose where you want the page numbers to get.
    • Folio count: The page count is added wherever your cursor is placed in the document.
    • More than options: You lot can apply page numbers to specific pages or sections, or change their alignment.

The page numbers or folio count will exist added automatically.

Add a footnote

  1. Open a document in Google Docs.
  2. Click where you desire to insert a footnote.
  3. In the elevation left, click Insert and thenFootnote.
  4. Type your footnote.

Tip: If your certificate is in pageless format, footnotes will all appear together at the end of your certificate.
